The Internship Option is the most popular of the pre-certification options at UNH. By enrolling in this option, teacher candidates work during the day as a full-time intern in a school district for one year. The internship school district, in exchange for the candidate's work, pays the candidate's university tuition directly to UNH. Candidates then come to classes at night, usually three times per week, for one calendar year, either September - June, or January - December. The Internship Option is intense by design; one calendar year of internship and coursework, in addition to required exams, will earn successful candidates a Master of Science Degree in Education.
After the Master's Degree is completed, an additional 13 weeks of student teaching is required to gain CT State certification. This is a supervised university field experience that candidates must pay for directly.
